There’s an old Mafia saying: “The fish stinks from the head.” At ABRAMS this morning, our CEO Michael Jacob’s office was redolent of ramps. These pungent greens grow wild and wildly at his home in upstate New York. Last weekend he harvested two wheelbarrows full with the help of some colleagues; washed them four times, and brought them into the office to share with fans of the fragrant bulb. I was the lucky recipient of a bag full and made the following dish.
Last Thursday was a proud day for ABRAMS. Over 550 members of the publishing industry came together to toast Michael Jacobs, President and CEO of ABRAMS. The occasion was Goddard Riverside’s 26th Annual New York Book Fair Gala and Michael was this year’s honoree.
It’s amazing what a holiday break can do for the spirit and body and soul. If you don’t have a son or daughter under the age of 15 (or so) and you work in an office (as I do) you may not have the chance to actually visualize the success of the Wimpy Kid books first hand. My boys are grown-ups (18, 22, 27) and will read a Wimpy book if there’s one lying around the house, but they aren’t Mr. Kinney’s audience.
This fall, The Goddard Riverside Community Center will be honoring Michael Jacobs for his dedication to their programs over the course of his career. As part of their yearly celebrations/fund raisers there will be a gala dedicated to MJ and I (being married/mother to a film crew) decided to make a video as part of the entertainment for the evening. There will be speeches and humor and warm moments and this video.
