I know it’s freezing and we’re all bundled up, but I spied a tattoo the other day over by an area of our office known as “Open Design” and decided to do some detective work to see how many tattoos I could find here in the office. I was pleasantly surprised! Several people passed me along to others and, of course, everyone had a story.

Whenever a new year starts I look back on the books I’ve read and try and think about what I liked the most, and what I’m most looking forward to in the upcoming year. Working in publishing is great for many reasons, but being able to talk with coworkers just as passionate and knowledgeable about the world of literature is perhaps the best part. I decided to poll some of these coworkers to see what they read in 2012 and find out what they liked best, and what they’re looking forward to tackling in 2013. See what we read after the break!

I was talking on the phone with Chris Blank (Blog Wrangler) about what my topic for this month. I had missed yet another Blog Meeting and was trying to come with a plan when I glanced across my desk and through the door at my neighbor, Lindy. Lindy is not a big eater. Lindy rarely leaves her desk, as far as I can tell, but I do notice that she likes to snack. I was watching her have a snack when I decided I’d do a little post on favorite snacks here on the sixth floor, so I took myself over to Publicity and Marketing and then to Production to see what people are eating.

This fall, The Goddard Riverside Community Center will be honoring Michael Jacobs for his dedication to their programs over the course of his career. As part of their yearly celebrations/fund raisers there will be a gala dedicated to MJ and I (being married/mother to a film crew) decided to make a video as part of the entertainment for the evening. There will be speeches and humor and warm moments and this video.

As our semi-official human interest blogger I was assigned a post* about people’s summer vacation plans…I did a little emailing and found out that:
Kathy, in Production, is driving with her teenage son, her beau, and his teenage daughter to Florida. They’re going to visit South Beach and Miami which sounds pretty swell, but, frankly it’s the driving with the teenagers that really impresses me! Seriously though, I love traveling with older kids and I’ll bet they’ll have lots of laughs.

After a long week everyone was looking forward to our annual Spring Preview Party on Friday. This year, as so many of our co-workers have new babies, we decided to invite all the infants to attend as well.

In honor of Friday The Thirteenth I have been asked to write a post about superstitions. Superstition is a belief in supernatural causality that one event leads to the cause of another without any process in the physical world linking the two events. How superstitious is the staff here at Abrams? Click through to find out…

Mary Wowk often shares recipes and cooking techniques with her staff. They’ve made risotto and stir-fried chicken together, but today’s recipe is the best one for a sleepy afternoon. Today they made Two Minute Cake In A Mug!

Have you met Pixie? That’s the model name of our new espresso machine.
It’s shiny and red and is sitting just outside Michael’s conference room…and it brews the most delicious coffee!
We have a variety of roasts and intensities available and we’re hoping you’ll come by and have a cup (even if you aren’t on “the calendar”).

It’s gotten good and cold here in NYC. I love the winter and am hoping for snow. Lots of snow. Paralyzing snow. The kind of snow that has my boss (the CEO) advising employees not to risk their safety whilst commuting. But I digress. Cold weather = boot weather and everyone is wearing them.
Here are six fabulous sets of boots worn by six amazing ABRAMS women who are always well dressed. (And, believe me, I could have found 56 pairs of great boots this week.)…
