Turning The Page

New Stories For Newtown

This past weekend, I attended the Turning the Page: New Stories for Newtown event in Connecticut. The tragedy that befell the people of Newtown at Sandy Hook Elementary School this past December left so many of us wishing we could reach out and help the community recover. This literary festival, cosponsored by the Children’s Book Council (CBC), the C.H. Booth Library’s Books Heal Hearts fund, and many children’s book publishers, including ABRAMS, had an important impact on the community.

The Five Lives of Our Cat Zook

Four Questions with Author Joanne Rocklin

The Five Lives of Our Cat Zook is a warm-hearted middle-grade novel about Oona, a curious and spunky big sister, her little brother, Fred, and their adored cat, Zook (short for Zucchini). When Zook gets sick and has to stay with the vet, Oona tells Fred the story of Zook’s previous lives, ranging in style from fairy tale to grand epic to slice of life. Each of Zook’s lives has echoes in Oona’s own family life, which is going through a transition she’s not yet ready to face.

CakeLove in the Morning: The Starter Scone

Another Delicious Recipe from CakeLove In The Morning

Breakfast and baking are two very important things to me, which is why I was immediately drawn to the beautiful, expansive CakeLove in the Morning: Recipes for Muffins, Scones, Pancakes, Waffles, Biscuits, Frittatas, and Other Breakfast Treats by Warren Brown. I’ve also been to one of Brown’s bakeries in Washington, DC and I’m truly a fan of his work and the incredible path he took to becoming a baker!
